Cavalry

Cavalry did not play an enormous role in the War of 1812, however the units were present, usually in a skirmishing or staff role (messangers). In some cases, however, they did see significant action.

US dragoons were never issued, nor did they acquire carbines (nor were they even manufactured). The dismounted dragoons with muskets (not carbines) represent forces that fought at Sackett's Harbor, a depot which issued them the weapons and sent them into the field to fight as infantry.

The helmet worn is taken directly from museum artifacts. Helmets depicted with a side plume are incorrect and based on the artwork of a nineteenth-century artist named Henry Ogden, commissioned by the army to document their historical uniforms, who mistakenly used post-war examples.
